In the 17th century, barbarian pirates ravaged the Provence coast from the Balearics.
In 1610, they attacked a vast estate of the Sandeel, owned by the Laugiers. The latter were absent, but their seven sons fought valiantly before succumbing to the numbers. When they returned, their parents discovered them and the mother fell ill, "espaim" in Provençal. The small building, 6 metres wide by 9 metres deep, flanked by two narrow bays and two stone benches on the ground, surmounted by an oculus and a bell tower, commemorates this tragic fact. The chapel is a private property.
