Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty, choreographed by Marius Petipa, based on the fairy tale by Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, is one of the most popular classical ballets. The story tells of Princess Aurora, condemned by the fairy Carabosse to an eternal sleep on her sixteenth day of birth. Tchaikovsky's score accompanies choreography rich in ensembles, variations, and pas de deux.
