Overview

Learn about the steps involved in conservation and preservation from an archaeologist.

As part of the 2026 European Heritage Days, the Tour de Sanary is offering a tour dedicated to the protection of underwater archaeological heritage.

A tour to discover and preserve

Discover the Tour’s collection of archaeological artifacts and their history, which bear witness to the richness of our region’s maritime heritage.

This tour will also serve as an opportunity to raise public awareness about the proper steps to take to preserve shipwrecks and submerged remains:

Do not touch or move shipwrecks and remains.
Do not bring objects discovered underwater to the surface.
Report any discoveries to the appropriate authorities.
Only authorized archaeologists may recover objects as part of archaeological research.

The tours will be led by Charlie Hourcau, an archaeologist with the JASON ARCHEO SUB association.
