Après son opus sur Dinah Washington (album Blue Note avec China Moses), il revisite ici le répertoire de Bessie Smith, « l’Impératrice du Blues », légende afro-américaine des années 1920-1930. Il s’entoure sur scène de deux chanteuses aux voix puissantes et profondes, imprégnées de soul et de blues, Olympe Assohoto et Krystel Dobat.
Plus qu’un concert, c’est un hommage à une véritable icône, dont l’influence a marqué des générations d’artistes, de Nina Simone à Billie Holiday en passant par Janis Joplin…rien que cela !
