Overview

It was Jules Delaud, author of many operettas including "Baptiste de Signes", who created Sanary's first troupe in 1931.

Until after the war, Sanary had two stages in the cinemas of the "Ritz" and the "Variétés". The shows come from Marseille or Paris. We see Reda Cairo, Yves Montand.....
It was a former celebrity of silent cinema, Georges Galli, who undertook to build the "Cité de la jeunesse", now Théâtre Galli, on land on the edge of the village. Georges Galli had ended his acting career to take up his orders.
Having become a priest of Sanary and very socially, sportily and culturally active, the priest Galli financed this construction with his own money, and with the donations of many Sanaryans and personalities such as Paul Ricard. The vocation of the Youth City is first and foremost to be a sports hall that can receive religious services. Built in Rognes stone, the building, designed by architect Pierre Guieu, was inaugurated on 27 June 1959 by Maurice Herzog, then Secretary of State for Youth.
In August 1977, Georges Galli, canon of Toulon and parish priest of Sanary, donated the city to the municipality to perpetuate the action he had undertaken in favour of young people and for which he was made Knight of the Legion of Honour by President Georges Pompidou. Currently the Chanoine-Georges-Galli theatre is one of the largest theatres in the Var. It hosts theatre, concerts, music and dance.
